Dentures

A patient missing all or several of their natural teeth may be a good candidate for dentures. It is also important that the patient’s gum tissue is healthy enough to support the denture appliance. Depending on the number of missing teeth and the condition of any remaining teeth, the dentist may recommend a full or partial denture.

If the patient does not have enough bone density to support an implant, they may be better served by a denture. A quick consultation with our dentist at Van Buren Smiles can help determine the best treatment options for your unique needs.

Partial vs. Full Dentures

There are two main types of dentures, partial and complete. Both types of dentures replace missing teeth and help restore your smile’s function and appearance. The main difference is that full dentures replace your whole upper or lower arch of teeth, while partial dentures can replace only sections of your teeth.

Both types of dentures restore your ability to chew and speak properly and support your facial muscles for a more youthful look. Many patients report better nutrition and digestion after getting their complete or partial dentures. To enjoy all the benefits of dentures and ensure their longevity, it’s essential to properly care for them.

How Do I Maintain My Dentures?

You should clean your dentures every day, but it’s best to do so after you eat and before you go to bed at night. Brush your dentures with toothpaste and a toothbrush with a soft-bristled head, and use mouthwash or simply rinse your mouth with water. Rinsing your mouth with water will help eliminate any remaining food particles. You can also use a denture cleaning tablet when you soak your dentures overnight or soak them in a glass of water with equal parts water and vinegar or lemon juice.

In addition to brushing your dentures, you should regularly visit our dentist for checkups. During these visits, our dentist will give you a professional cleaning and check to ensure that your dentures are fitting correctly and aren’t causing any irritation or damage to your gums. The dentist will also check for any signs of severe health problems like oral cancer.

Dentures can replace your missing teeth and restore your smile if you’ve lost all or some of your natural teeth as a result of periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury.
